Anchor text for iGaming links: a distribution that ages well

Most burned link profiles we audit share one trait: the anchors were optimised for the next quarter, not the next update. In a vertical where scrutiny is permanent, anchor text is less about squeezing relevance out of every placement and more about looking like a site that people actually cite.

The distribution that keeps working

Across the campaigns we see hold up long-term, the profile looks roughly like this:

  • Branded and URL anchors — about half. "YourBrand", "yourbrand.com", bare URLs. This is what natural citation looks like, and it is the buffer that lets everything else work.
  • Topical and partial-match — around a third. "betting odds explained", "casino bonus guide for the UK" — anchors that describe the destination page without repeating its money keyword verbatim.
  • Exact match — a small, deliberate remainder. Save it for pages with genuine landing-page quality, on your strongest placements, and never twice with the same phrasing in a short window.

The exact numbers matter less than the shape. A profile that is mostly brand with a thin layer of exact match survives; the inverse gets filtered, quietly, and you spend months wondering why rankings drift while nothing shows in Search Console.

Three habits that separate durable profiles

Match the anchor to the page's job

Commercial pages earn commercial anchors slowly; guides can take descriptive anchors almost immediately. When a new site points an exact-match anchor at a bonus page in its first month, the mismatch is the signal — not the anchor itself.

Let the publisher's editor win

If the editor softens your anchor into something more natural for the article, that is usually a favour. The placements that read like advertising are the ones that vanish in manual reviews.

Audit what you already have before buying more

Pull your live anchors before every campaign. The right next anchor depends entirely on the distribution you already own — buying "more of the same" is how profiles tip over.

Where this fits in our process

Every order on iGamingPublishers carries your anchor and its type through an eight-stage pipeline, and placements are re-checked after delivery — so the anchor that goes live is the one you approved, on a page that a human has actually read.
